What is a Family-School Compact?
A Family-School Compact for Achievement is an agreement that families, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how families and teachers will work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade-level standards. |
Communicating about Learning SPPS Online School is committed to communicating regularly with families about children’s learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to communicate are: ● School/Classroom Newsletters: emailed to families weekly (varies by grade level/and school). Paper copies are available upon request. ● Regular updates to the school website. ● Parent/Teacher/Student conferences. ● Phone calls, emails, written letters, notes and flyers. ● Goal of a 24-hour response time to phone calls and voicemail messages during scheduled school days. Calls made on Friday will be returned on Monday. ● Seesaw: Kindergarten through fifth grade teachers use this app for instructional purposes and to share student work with families. ● Schoology: Sixth through 12th grade teachers use this app for instructional purposes. Parents have access to see their child’s work. ● Student Behavior Handbook (Rights and Responsibilities): is available at https://www.spps.org/families/students-rights-responsibilities ● Automated Phone Calls, Emails, and Text Messages via Blackboard Connect: used as a way to make important school-related announcements and to invite families to participate in school events and activities, as well as for general announcements and reminders.
Activities to Support Partnerships ● Conferences: Student-led conferences done quarterly for Q1, Q2, Q3, and “Academic Assignment Completion Day” style for Q4. Dates TBD ● PTSA: Stakeholders interested in forming a Parent-Teacher Student Association should contact school administration for additional information and opportunities. ● Parent Workshops: TBD (We are working with the Family Engagement & Community Partnerships Dept. to offer several workshops during this school year.) ● Virtual Classroom Visits: TBD—communicated and facilitated throughout the school year. ● Parent Volunteer Opportunities: Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher to discuss ways to volunteer in the classroom.

Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, families at SPPS Online School will be asked to provide feedback to develop this Compact for Achievement jointly. Schoolwide meetings will be held throughout the year where SPPS Online School Teachers and Staff will gather feedback, and the compact will be updated annually to reflect stakeholder feedback. Families are welcome to contribute comments at any time.
Parents are welcome to reach out to their child’s teacher and/or school administration at any time to request a meeting to discuss questions or concerns related to the school or their child’s learning.
