Report Student Absences
Communicate EVERY DAY that your student is going to be absent from school. Inform the school about barriers to attendance and we will do our best work with you and your student.
Call or email the Attendance Line:
- Elementary (K-5): 651-744-4707 or oes.attendance@spps.org
- Secondary (6-12): 651-744-4711 or oss.attendance@spps.org
When leaving a voice message or email, provide:
- Student Name
- Parent Name
- CIF or DOB
- Date(s) of Absence
- Reason
If a student has 5 or more unexcused absences, we are required by law to contact the County that you live in. You may receive information from the school or County if unexcused absences continue.

What is considered an absence?
Any time a student is not in class, it is considered an absence.
Excused Absence:
- Illness
- Religious Holidays
- Family Emergencies
- Medical/Mental Health/Dental Appointments
Unexcused Absence:
- Travel/vacation
- Tired from work/travel
- Weather: too hot/cold
- Babysitting
- Car trouble
- Overslept
- Not immunized
- Needed at home
