Attendance Policy
SPPS Online High School Attendance Policy
Students in the OHS are expected to engage in class on a daily basis. However, in an online school, the ability to meet this requirement does not have to fall within a structured day. Students have access to required work in Schoology 24 hours per day/7 days per week. Many students complete work on a non-traditional basis due to life responsibilities such as holding a job, responsibilities to care for family members, or just being more successful with an alternative schedule. The OHS Key driver needs to reflect our belief that “With flexibility comes responsibility!” Students who complete work on the weekends, at night, or during the day need to be held to a standard of attendance reflecting success in their course work.
We do have an OHS Master Schedule in Campus reflecting a master's scheduling approach for 2023-2024 with daily check-ins with CREW advisors required. Student attendance at the class level is defined by a students' master schedule.
Daily CREW attendance and check-ins is required for all students. Attendance by period will depend upon student engagement and/or participation in synchronous sessions and or asynchronous work completion. Students will have the opportunity to earn a more flexible attendance approach through meeting school expectations regarding engagement in course work and CREW. Successful daily student attendance can be accomplished through the following:
- Successful Attendance #1:
- Students attend CREW daily and/or communicate effectively with their CREW Leader
- Students maintaining a course percentage above 50% in their courses will be considered in attendance for each scheduled course daily.
- Successful Attendance #2:
- Students attend CREW Daily with assigned CREW Lead
- If a student has a course percentage below 50% they will be expected to attend synchronous sessions with their assigned teacher in order to be considered present for each individual course below 50%.
- Course teachers will record synchronous attendance for each student. Students who do not attend a synchronous lesson are below 50% will be considered absent and the teacher will record absence as unexcused.
Daily Attendance Expectations
- All students are required to attend CREW daily. Students who are NOT present in their live CREW class will be marked as absent.
- For all other classes, student will have the opportunity to earn a more flexible attendance approach through meeting school expectations.
- OHS students are "present" in class if...
- They are one time and present for their live class
- Students who only log into class for the first or last 10 minutes are NOT "present"
- They maintain a course grade at or above 50%
- The OHS is built around flexibility, students who are meeting school expectations have earned that privilege
- They are one time and present for their live class
We need to know you are there!
If you are asked something, reply! Students need to let us know that you did no just log in and walk away. Students who do no reply will be removed from the meeting and marked absent.
